Hi jman,
I am on the same journey. And once I wrapped my head around the vc-mode
mode workflow I am now happy with it. However, I have very few needs,
working mostly on my own projects. So no fancy rebasing/merging and such.
If you look at NEWS of upcoming Emacs 31 you will also notice many new
improvements coming to vc-mode.
I will try to stop by tomorrow and discuss in person with you.
Best
Sebastian
