STARSHIP - The Near Future

The Near Future is an exhibition of Starship for the Center for Contemporary Art in Tbilisi/Georgia. In this exhibition the near future will be depicted in various spheric models and abstractions. Since nobody can remember the future, it will be necessary to draw upon the past, especially on short term memory, and construct a new image by layerings. The exhibition will be produced in Tbilisi, abstractions will thus be from Georgia, while the main reflections will be from Berlin. They concern ways of social movement, and what happens when people are positioned upon another and start a common artistic practice, as happened with Starship and other projects the main protagonists were involved in. The Near Future therefore is also an exhibition about co-operation and the possibilities to rethink the thoughts of others. Thus The Near Future must also be an exhibition about abstraction and the bars, necessarily put into communication.


The Near Future ist eine Ausstellung von Starship für das Center of Contemporary Art in Tbilisi/Georgien. Die nahe Zukunft wird darin in verschiedenen Kugelmodellen und Abstraktionen präsentiert. Nachdem man sich an die Zukunft nicht erinnern kann, wird hier auch auf die Vergangenheit, vor allem auf das Kurzzeitgedächtnis, zurückgegriffen und durch Überlagerungen ein neues Bild erzeugt. Die Ausstellung wird in Tbilisi hergestellt, die Abstraktionen kommen also auch aus Georgien, die eigentlichen Überlegungen werden aus Berlin mitgebracht. Sie beziehen sich auf die Möglichkeiten gesellschaftlicher Bewegung, das, was passiert, wenn sich Menschen übereinanderschieben und eine gemeinsame künstlerische Existenz führen, wie das bei Starship und anderen Projekten, an denen die Autoren beteiligt sind, geschieht. The Near Future ist deshalb auch eine Ausstellung über Zusammenarbeit und über die Möglichkeiten, anderer Menschen Gedanken nachzuvollziehen. Damit ist The Near Future natürlich auch eine Ausstellung über Abstraktion und über die Hindernisse, die man der Kommunikation in den Weg räumen muss.
