Personen im Raum, sie bewegen sich, interagieren, verwenden Gegenstände, tun etwas und tun es
nochmals, selbstverständlich. Doch etwas stimmt nicht. In der Ausstellung, die für den Kunstverein
Schattendorf konzipiert wurde, stellt Joan Jonas' Video Song Delay von 1973 einen visuellen
Ausgangspunkt dar. Menschen, die auf einem leeren Grundstück in New York einfache abstrakte Muster
abschreiten, rhythmisiert von aneinander geschlagenen Holzstücken - eine Performance, das heisst die
tatsächliche Bewegung von Menschen und ein Film, der in sich selbst eine Geschichte erzählt.

Sich in und quer zum Raum, dem öffentlichen Raum, bewegen - das ist zum einen eine Technik des
Raumbegreifens, wie sie von den Situationisten im Begriff des Dérive zusammengefasst wurde, zum
anderen Bestandteil einiger Berufe, abgebildet zum Beispiel in Why not Yellow von Lucio Auri. Oder es ist, wie in Judith Hopf / Henrik Olesen's Film The Evil Fairie eine andere, versteckte Identität, die sich in einer Geste ausdrückt, die lesbar ist, oder nicht lesbar wird - je nachdem, ob sie von jemanden gesucht wird.

Aktuell stellt sich im Bild des städtischen Raums auch eine weitere Frage. Neben dem hypertroph
kapitalisierten Begriff der Immobilie, die Ausgangspunkt des massivsten Wirtschaftscrash der
Nachkriegszeit wurde, hat die Stadt auch einen Gebrauchswert. Wenn all ihre Hypotheken und Zinsraten zusammengebrochen sind, lässt sie sich immer noch verwenden. Them Ornamentals and us Accidentals Never the Trains Will Meet von Florian Zeyfang / Martin Ebner gibt darüber Auskunft.

Konzipiert wurde die Ausstellung von Martin Ebner und Ariane Müller, Künstler und Herausgeber der
Berliner Kunstzeitschrift STARSHIP (www.starship-magazine.org ). 

Die Ausstellung versammelt installative Videos, Fotoarbeiten und Arbeiten auf anderen Medien einer
zumeist Berliner Künstlergeneration, die auf eine Erweiterung dessen, was in der Gesellschaft repräsentiert wird, abzielen. In dieser Stadt, Berlin, die zwar den Reichtum einer Industrienation darstellen soll, dennoch an jeder ihrer vielen Ecken ständig zusammenbricht und nur mühsam belebt werden kann, entsteht in der Selbstverständlichkeit und dem Nebeneinander der aus diesen Wirklichkeiten erzeugten Bilder eine neue narrative Erzählform des Alltäglichen - mit all seinen Abweichungen.

People in a space, movement, they interact, use tools, do something, and again do something, as a matter of course. But something is different. In the exhibition, conceived for Schattendorf Kunstverein, Joan Jonas Video Song Delay of 1973 constitutes a visual point of departure. People move through an empty lot in New York following abstract patterns, cadenced by the beat of wooden sticks - a performance, thus the actual movement of people through space and a film, which tells a story in itself.

Moving in and crossing through space, the public space, is on one hand a technique of conceiving space, as has been put into the concept of the dérive by the situationist movement of the 60s, on the other hand it is the daily bread of some professions and pictured for example in the video Why not Yellow of Lucio Auri. It may also be, as in Judith Hopf/Henrik Olesens film The Evil Fairy hinting at some other hidden identity, readable or not readable, depending if someone is looking for it.

There are also some more contemporary notions of this movement through space. Besides that of the hypertrophical, capitalistic notion of real estate as starting point of one of the biggest post-war economical crashes, the city has a usage value. Once all mortgages and investment rates have collapsed, it is still usable. The exhibition has been conceived by Martin Ebner and Ariane Müller, artists and editors of Berlin based art magazine STARSHIP.

The exhibition consist of video installations, photo works, and other media produced by a specific berlin based generation of arist, who are working on broadening the range of what gets represented in society. In this city, Berlin, picturing on one hand the wealth of a highly industrialized nation, falling apart at its many fringes, and only then being difficultly reassembled. It is a new form of narration in all its aberrations which comes into its form based on the coexistence and the impliciteness of its realities.
