2020: THE YEAR YOU BROKE THE INTERNET. Okay, the virus made you do it: get into
online teaching and online festivals and live streaming on social media, fall
in love with Netflix, make peace with Zoom, and install a thousand apps on your
phone that you don't really understand. Of course, we don't understand most of
them either. We just wanted to remind you, and ourselves, of what happened to
radio, peer-to-peer medium par excellence and avant la lettre, until the dream
of the state -- to be in sync -- fulfilled itself and radio turned itself into
a receiver. It would be unfortunate if the dream of the in/dividual today was
nothing more than "in real time" and occupied no other spaces anymore, and we
ended up giving up on the internet as well. http://www.viertewelt.de/kalender/
TECHNOLOGIES is a series of IRL/3D-world offline events on the wealth of
technological possibilities and the poverty of their use, on the time in front
of, behind and under the computers, on the figures that populate them and the
spaces that surround them. The series also serves as an occasion to make a few
practical proposals to still do something entirely different with the internet.
Hosted by Jan Gerber, Rosemary Grennan and Sebasian Lütgert, sometimes with
guests. In English and German, with a little bit of Python every now and then.
