--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

dear all,

as we can see around the world, deconfinement is the hard part ;) (1)

we'll take it easy. we've been gifted a beautiful new tagline, see trailer, and
from here on(2), and into summer, pirate cinema will operate in prⅳate cinema
mode. which is: we invite you, and you can +1. there will be more emphasis on
sunsetbathing (or dancing in the rain) and less emphasis on film. in principle,
you can also self-invite, but we don't have clear procedures in place for that.
maybe this can also happen in the form of: "hey lets meet", and we forget about
pirate cinema for a moment. other than that, you will still hear from us here.

regarding our 75-hour may 2020 program that wasn't(3): we won't touch out 1
or twin peaks, whatever the circumstances, until that program actually happens.
however, we could totally imagine two two-day sessions with gilles deleuze's
abécédaire and mariano llinás' la flor. obviously, this would entail the
commitment to actually stay around - in whatever capacity: watching, talking,
eating, drinking, sleeping - for the entire runtime of the program, which is
453 minutes and 814 minutes, respectively. if you want to, send us an e-mail.

ps: "how can we liberate ourselves from fascism?"(4) was, of course, not a
rhetorical question. if you've seen something in the mobile phone tarot(5)
included in our last announcement, do let us know. answers are not the only
medium that we're looking for, but we can share one. this was the first one
we've received: "not with the male white western gaze of 20th century cinema!"

KEINE WERBUNG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this week we realized, not without horror, that prⅳate cinema was actually the
only cinema still operating in berlin(6). because we still think that online
and streaming doesn't count: each and every cinema in berlin could have been
streaming films for the past ten years without any problem, other than that
little issue with copyright that pirate cinema borrowed its name from in 2004.
we would have been mega supportive of such ventures, because together, against
the rather mafiotic constellation at the core of cinema(7) - against that fever
dream of killing the internet in order to keep the corpses and ghosts of cinema
alive, instead: in favor of a peaceful, constructive and cross-pollinating
cohabitation of cinema and internet - we could have achieved many things.
netflix would have never happened, that's for certain. because... why not
admit it, after all: if something "killed cinema", it wasn't the pirate bay.

but just as we thought we had become something we had never aspired to be - the
last cinema left in berlin - another cinematic venture that we've always seen
as a peer (another one without too much emphasis on film, one that we've always
enjoyed quite a bit, not because but regardless of their program) came to the
rescue and reannounced itself: for june 12 from 9 pm. just like us, they don't
need assistance with promotion, so in case you're not on their mailing list and
don't know where to look for arrows drawn on the pavement tonight, you can
always ask in private. if you like, see you there.

(1) read the news, and/or see https://lundi.am/L-economie-ou-la-vie,
(or lundi.am in general, and maybe nettime.org and thingist.thing.net)

(2) in fact, the first five episodes of prⅳate cinema season eight have already
taken place, and we've already been in many places, so to say (thank you!)

together against the mafia: godard, scorsese, bittorrent(8)

(8) the reformatted, compacted and minimally expanded english version that
appeared in the journal of the moving image, published by the department of
film studies at jadavpur university in calcutta in 2009 (issue 8: future of
celluloid, https://jmionline.org/journal/jmi_2009) isn't as bad as we
recalled - last but not least because it addresses, however briefly, two
major questions of 2020: what happens when we bet on exponentials, and what
we should do with our nostalgia, if any, for the unsustainable private and
    professional lives of the past.
