         Every two-and-a-half years, approximately, Pirate Cinema gets pirated
         itself - this Sunday by Istvan Kantor (see, among many other websites,

         "Superspectre". We have attached some prose, at the very bottom, and

In loser Fortsetzung unseres Themas von letzter Woche, also "Neuere Beiträge zum
psychogeografischen Film", zeigen wir am Sonntag Saint Etiennes "Finisterre" (s.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0390005/), "a film about London", so der Untertitel, vom
Tempo her deutlich zurückgenommen im Vergleich zu den Moves von letztem Sonntag,
bei böswilliger Betrachtung könnte man sogar Spuren von Lahmarschigkeit oder von
Hippiekultur ausmachen, die sich aber bei gutwilliger Betrachtung als Teil genau
jener halbdistanziert-halbentrückt-halbpsychedelischen Erzählperspektive zeigen,
von der aus Saint Etienne schon immer operiert haben. Die jeweils andere Hälfte,
und auch die ist im Film zu sehen, wäre die beobachtende Teilnahme an (ansonsten
unterbelichteten oder nur als kulturell verstandenen) Neben-Strängen und Seiten-
Wegen der britischen Sozialgeschichte, ein nachsichtig-optimistischer Umgang mit
den Zeichenarsenalen von "Widerstand". "Finisterre" ist kein Dokumentarfilm, und
"Finisterre" ist auch kein Musik-Video; "Finisterre" ist noch nicht mal, und das
trotz aller Begeisterung für das Erheben relativ obskurer empirischer Daten, ein
Greenaway-Film. Eher ein Vorschlag, wie sich ein Bild einer Stadt machen liesse,
und mit welcher Geschwindigkeit und wohin ("art and commerce surrounded us... we
headed east") man sich dort bewegen kann. - Der Film ist ziemlich kurz, weswegen
ausreichend Zeit für einen Nachfilm bleibt. Nach dem "Best French Film Ever" von
letzter Woche dachten wir an den "Best British Film Ever", ungefähr ab halb elf.

         "Real change in a society must first manifest as a change in the social
         relationships that people want and understand. Sudden, cataclysmic
         revolutions that bring down governments and societies never create real
         progressive change. So long as the people in the society have and expect
         the same social relationships, the post-revolutionary society will
         instantly reconfigure itself with exactly the same exploitive and
         reactionary structures the revolution toppled, and with the revolution
         as legitimation, the new hierarchy, derived from the revolutionary
         elite, will inevitably proceed to implement greater and greater heights
         of tyranny.

         The failed revolution, never tasting the poison of power, remains a
         poetic inspiration, its participants transcend the limitations of
         whatever moral and ideological limitations they may have, becoming
         symbols of human struggle. The failed revolution gives us the mythic
         structure by which we identify with progress and internalize
         revolutionary ideas. The failed revolution mobilizes a far more
         important force than state power, it becomes the image and identity of
         our internal revolution, and changes the way in which we conceive of
         ourselves and society, and thus, in creating this inspiration for self
         and mutual understanding, it motivates us to live revolutionary lives.

         50 years ago, such a failed revolution took place in Hungary. As a young
         boy, Istvan Kantor witnessed this failed revolution, and this experience
         has shaped his artistic practice. In 2004, Istvan Kantor organized a
         Neoist festival in Berlin, where in a series of performances and
         presentations we carried out our own failed revolution. There is an

         Istvan began work on his new feature length video, Superspectre /
         Ubergespenst, which he has dedicated to the anniversary of the Hungarian
         Revolution of 1956."
